Pelvic Ultrasound Scans Stafford
IN-CLINIC SESSIONS
Pelvic ultrasound to examine conditions affecting the organs in a woman's pelvis
Ultrasound is an excellent diagnostic tool for visualising the uterus, including the lining of the womb (the endometrium), ovaries and other pelvic structures. A combination of external (trans-abdominal) & internal (trans-vaginal) approaches allows your highly experienced Sonographer to detect many pathological conditions, associated with the female reproductive system.
The Sonographer can perform a Trans-Vaginal Scan (TVS) but only after your consent. Please note, however, that a TVS produces more detail and clearer pictures than only a transabdominal scan.
Pregnancy scans are not performed at CareHealth.

To assist with filling of your bladder; drink at least a litre of water and finish it at least 1 hour before the scan. Do not go to the toilet until the scan has been completed.
After the top scan, you may also be offered a Transvaginal Scan (TVS) which is required to visualise pelvic structures in much more detail than the top scan. This involves inserting a small ultrasound probe into the vagina and closely scanning the womb, lining of the womb and ovaries to detect or outline any diseases in detail such as polyps, PCOS, ovarian cysts and other lesions that may cause pain, bleeding, bloating or discomfort.
A TVS is usually a well-tolerated procedure, which will be explained in more detail by the sonographer. At the time of your scan, you may refuse it with the knowledge that it normally provides better detail thus supplementing the Transabdominal Scan( TAS) . Please inform the sonographer if you have any questions or if you decide not to have a TVS.
